Discovery of the truth of life (Self-Realization)

A Metaphorical Story

Looking at Sky

Once, a man was walking alone in a dense forest. He was captivated by the beauty of the forest as he walked on. He was much involved in relishing the beauty of the forest to the extent of forgetting his own self. Beyond a point, he lost himself to the immensity of the forest. His legs were walking along a path he did not choose. His mind too was not with himself. It wandered after the ever emerging scenery of the forest. He does not know what he is after and had no choice to exercise.

At a particular moment when he lost all directions and became a kicking ball of instincts, he saw a distant figure of a beautiful angel. Ah! again a great captivation! With severe wounds in his self, he painstakingly proceeded to reach the beautiful angel.

The angel was so beautiful, lively and life affirming. If he could attain the angel then that would be the reward for his arduous life journey. The angel, its legs were not visible. It was as though it floated over mountains and lakes in the forest. With great determination, he followed it through the rocks, thorny bushes, ponds, caves and swamps.

He earnestly desired to attain the angel. It would embrace him and heal all his wounds and he would blossom again in life.  But the journey seems not to be over as the angel continually evaded him. There seems to be no end for this evasion. Years passed by.

Still the angel could not be reached. It was far away, waving its glorious hands to him but remained unattainable. The man took rest by sitting on a rock. Till now his head was held high and eyes were always looking for the angel. Now for the first time, he looked down to find that he was sitting on the top of the tallest mountain from where he could measure all the worlds beneath him including the forest with seemingly no frontiers.

His vision scaled heights and widths beyond the forests and mountains. Skies and seas he could see. Stars he could gaze. He understood the big picture. Before he was not able to see the world beyond the enslaving entities of the forest, now he is free.

He can go back to the forest or camp on the mountain. His understanding has calmed him. He is no more agitated or deluded. Now he is a simple and peaceful man.  Oh the Angel! He knows the angel is his own valuable making. The Angel is no more a distant enchanting entity to be longed after. He can embrace the angel within himself and can have a cup of coffee with it, if he likes.
